About the Owner:

Restaurateur Jan Kosz came to the United States of America in 1999 seeking "The American Dream" of becoming a successful entrepreneur like so many before him.

Recognizing that there was an  opportunity awaiting -- to fill a void in fine continental cuisine and dining choices -- he believed he could provide a unique dining experience in a region "hungry" for something new; a different kind of menu in a pleasant dining area within a small tourist village in the heart of the Adirondacks.

With his superb skills as a chef, his love of cooking, and his business acumen -- giving people something they'd perhaps never had before -- and doing it with flair and grace, he opened the Taste of Poland Restaurant in Lake George, New York.

Staffing his restaurant with well-mannered and highly capable college students from his homeland, he has employed wonderfully polite workers who please the customers with their charm, their friendliness, and their dedication to serve the restaurant's patrons while they earn funds for their continued education.

The reviews by prior diners at Taste of Poland below, attest to Jan's success in his endeavor.

This restaurant is a place that you really should spend your time when you are middle of road trip or for some other reason. It's cheap and they provide friendly and great service. If you read the previous comment you can't believe that costumer was telling the truth. I know people that spend their vacation every summer over there and nobody had problems some of them even come for holidays to the Ranch because they enjoy being there.  I have spent there 3 weeks and I remember that every single day was not a waste of time.

The eclectic-style dining room
We have had the pleasure of dining at "Taste of Poland" in May 2009, during our Victoria Day trip to George Lake. It was already dark when after the long day of sightseeing and hiking the Prospect Mountain, we decided to face the dilemma of finding the right place to eat. Jan Kosz made the decision very easy for us: he was so heartily welcoming that we could not resist his charm and his promise to treat us to bortsch with a big "krokiet" GRATIS (who in his right mind would resist such invitation?)

Despite the late hour, our charming host - Ania - managed somehow to serve us a grilled salmon on bed of rice and vegetables, fried pierogies with sour cream, and potato pancakes with Philadelphia cheese and smoked salmon on top, dressed with greens and a marinade of sublime taste. The portions were very generous and the food simply delicious, real mouth-watering home-made authentic Polish cuisine and not the American variations on the Polish theme. And we can be trusted on that since all three of us, we are Polish after all.

We finished the dinner with double mugs of black tee with lemon wedges and generous portions of Polish cheesecake to satisfy our sweet tooth. For all of you raised on the New York cheesecake and its many varieties, I can only say - it's not the same thing - you ought to try the Polish one to believe it!

Close to 10 p.m., tired and sleepy after the wonderful meal and the warm reception, we had only one thing on our mind - a quiet place and a warm bed to spend the night. Our wish was granted in no time by Jan: he invited us to stay at his rancho KOSZOWKA, lost deep in the Adirondack Mountains. Needles to say, we accepted his invitation with real gratitude. The night at Koszowka was a surprising end to our stay in George Lake and a treat worthy of a detailed relation on its own. Let me just say that instead of spending the night in a typically blunt motel room, we slept like royalty in antique beds in separate rooms among whistling trees and majestic mountains on the horizon.

To end the story, we have to state with a full conviction, that our late dinner at "Taste of Poland" and the night at Koszowka will stay among our best travel memories ever.

Thank you Jan, Ania and Marcin!!! We hope to see you again in the future.

What a surprise! My husband and I loved The Taste of Poland. He is half Polish so he knows his Polish food. We ordered the two-person special and were blown away by the taste and the value. What can I say? The best meal we had in Lake George this summer.

Now, we read on the menu that the restaurant will be moving outside of town. I hope that we can find them again when we return.
Great wait staff also.

This restaurant had amazing food and our waitress was lovely as well. The one note of caution... we tried to call ahead but only got an answering machine, so assumed it was closed for the day (we had been intrigued by reviews here). When we went to park nearby to the search out an alternative, but then noticed the sign and saw it looked open. We were so glad we ended up there after all. We were told they put on the machine when it gets too busy and they can't be answering the phone.

First, the kielbasa was the best we ever had. It is homemade and beat all other homemade versions we had tried. It was part of the Taste of Poland platter and made us want to go back and order it specifically next time, although, we'd be sad to miss any other part of the platter. The stuffed cabbage was quite good and not sweet, (as we have had a few times before elsewhere and did not like as much).
The potato pancakes were amazing, but then again, I have to admit to a love of potato pancakes.... My husband swooned over the hunter's stew, which was basically sauerkraut, sliced sausage and bits of pork. We had never tried it before and will try to replicate it at home sometime. The pierogies we also good, but we'd have liked a few more. I guess you can't eat it all in one trip, so we will have to go back when we are upstate again!

We did notice the nautical fixtures and agree it must have been a seafood place in a past life. I am happy to see they didn't waste any money redecorating and feel need to raise prices. It is charming as it is anyway.

As a laugh the waiters occasionally don't know how to make the bill so its always funny you have to laugh. The food is great anytime. Crepes are great for breakfast, while stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and kielbasa are great for dinner. Every we talk about going to this place AND WE CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't miss Taste of Poland.

We arrived at Lake George late in the day and the restaurant's kitchen was closing. Nevertheless, the waiters immediately welcomed us (a group of 4) in, took the time to explain the dishes on the menu and did not rush us even once throughout the course of the evening. All the dishes on the menu were excellent (we tried grilled kielbasa, bigos, potato pancakes with goulash (that was my personal favorite!) and golambki (stuffed cabbage). Our portions were huge and everything was of great quality! They didn't have Ukrainian borscht on the menu that night, but that was about the only "problem" we had with it. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very warm and welcoming, there are three dining areas and the decor is eclectic without being kitschy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, unless you highly dislike Eastern European food.

This is an absolutely WONDERFUL restaurant. We've been going there for years and look forward to each visit. The decor is charming, the service impeccable, and the FOOD!!! Well, the food is almost too good for words. Delicious, authentic, plentiful, beautifully presented, and reasonable, too! Plus you can BYOB. The Taste of Poland sampler platter is incredible - everything you could possibly want and then some!

Every worker I have ever met there is absolutely charming and helpful. The wait staff will bring you more of whatever you want. The owner will stroll around and chat with diners. Anyone who has mentioned having any problems with these charming people and/or the superlative service has got to be one of those people who whine and complain about everything. I am NOT a friend, relative, or anything other than an extremely satisfied customer.

Do yourself a favor - DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!!

We recently came back from Lake George 7/24 and chose this place to have dinner. The service was fine and the food was awesome. For $37.95 we ordered a "taste of Poland" sampler and it was terrific and it fed over 4 people! Highly recommend this place!

This is a surprisingly good ethnic restaurant right in the town of Lake George. We weren't sure what to expect but were very pleased with the service and quality of the food. It is housed in what appears to be a former seafood restaurant - the decor had a maritime theme throughout. We've had Polish food before and can say that this is good and tasty food. The pierogies were especially great! No, this is not low calorie diet food but, hey, we were on vacation. This is a pleasant and fairly priced restaurant in a town filled with tourist traps serving lousy food.

I very often meet my friend, she lives in Vermont and i live in Rockland county, New York for a few days in Lake George. we go throughout the year, not just summer and are always happy to see a Taste of Poland is open. we were nervous when we saw the old location empty, but thrilled to see it had relocated. the food is always excellent, plentiful, and reasonably priced. the staff is always exceptional. having had a Russian mother, I miss her ethnic cooking so I can always depend on this restaurant to fill my cravings. I will visit a Taste of Poland every time I visit Lake George. I love it!

We vacationed in Lake George and decided to try Taste of Poland for dinner.  We were not disappointed.  Everything was served attentively to our table and everything we order was great.  The owner is from Poland (born and raised) and is a wonderful cook with the help of his family.  The restaurant is open year round.  Try it...you will love it.  We had potato pancakes, beet soup, pierogies and stuffed cabbage rolls called golumpki.  The restaurant is located on the main street, I believe it is called Route 9. YUMMY!

I went there by myself. The service was excellent! I had borscht, chicken noodle soup and herring. It was authentic and delicious, very European-no grease, just simple good food.

I will soon bring my husband there for a complete dinner. The menu is varied serving from potato pancakes to blintzes to veal, duck and fish.

Four of us had dinner at Taste of Poland in September, 2007. I love Polish and Eastern European food in general, and it seemed like the most interesting option in Lake George on our quick trip there. We were not disappointed.

All the food that was brought to the table was very good. I had the homemade kielbasa, and my only regret was that I wasn't hungry enough to finish the very large portion they served. The pierogies were as good as one could ask for, and the pork dishes also were excellent. Our only complaint was that the service was a bit slow... we got forgotten about after we ate for a while, but the owner was kind enough to allow us to leave our table for a few minutes and come back to let us watch a fireworks show just across the street on the lake.

I would definitely recommend a meal here... if you like Polish food, you won't be disappointed.

We have dined at "A taste of Poland" several times. Each and every time we've been impressed with the service, friendliness of the staff, and quality of food, not to mention the size of the portions! Dollar for dollar you can't get better service or a better meal in Lake George.

On August 4th, 2007 we celebrated my oldest son’s bachelor party. Fourteen of us all dudes decided to dine at Taste of Poland Restaurant at Lake George Village, NY. We all were overwhelmed with great food, and supper nice service. Our waitress was very beautiful summer student from Poland name Annia. She was very attentive and responsive to all of our requests, especially dealing with rowdy dudes like us she done a great job. We started with Polish bear Zywiec, then some of us had red beet soup called borsch, and zurek both soups were really delicious. For the main course we had taste of Poland Sampler consisted of bigos, golompki, pirogi, potato pancake, and great homemade kielbasa.

The portions were generous and many of us couldn’t finish our plates. We all were raving how great and flavorful the food was. Some of us found room for the delicious homemade cheese or apple cake that made our evening even more delightful.

If any one would like to experience a gourmet Polish cuisine at its best The Taste of Poland restaurant is highly recommended.

We had the opportunity to visit “Taste of Poland” in June for a past-the-dinner-hour meeting with friends. This restaurant is very classy, much nicer than one would expect to find in this tiny tourist village. Our host, Jan, was extremely pleasant and accommodating, personally welcoming our large group and making us very comfortable in his establishment at the late hour that we came. Jan even kept his entire staff on hand, working overtime, until we had departed more than an hour after the rest of the village had shut down for the evening. I cannot find ample words of praise for this restaurateur and his European workers, who were so courteous and polite to us. I can only hope that our generous tips were adequate compensation for the inconvenience we had imposed on them.

Those in our group who dined, rather than just ordering beverages, found the cuisine to be remarkable, and I am anxious to return and order the “Taste of Poland Plate for Two” which has a sampling of all Jan’s specialties: cheese and potato pierogies, golabkies, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, home-made smoked sausages and other traditional polish fare.

For anyone who is interested in something different; someone tired of typical steakhouse dining, Italian restaurants, or “chain” restaurants, “Taste of Poland” will certainly provide an alternative menu for the adventurous diner looking for a unique dining experience.

the staff is very friendly, mostly eastern european. we needed a high chair and they only had 1 already in use. the prices are average, the menu includes your typical eastern european fare. I had the schintzel which was good but small, my wife's potato pancakes were good. there is a variety platter for 2, but you better have a big apetite.

My boyfriend and I dined there on Feb. 16 and were very pleased with the service and the food. Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor and being of Polish descent I ordered the Taste of Poland sampler and was very pleased. The kielbasa, stuffed cabbage, potatoe pancake and pieorgis were excellent and all home made, the portions were large and delicious. My boyfriend had the beer battered stead which was cooked to perfection and also a generous portion. This is by far the best polish restaurant I have ever dined in.

Excellent, homemade food, excellent, personal service, and a varied menu of Polish and American specialties. The soups are wonderful and the Polish sausage is made on-site. And the owner is often on-site, overseeing everything. The secret that most people don't know that he's a physician and sends most of the proceeds of this restaurant back to Poland, to buy needed medical equipment, especially for women with breast cancer, since they have few services there. A wonderful and home-like place that I've returned to and brought friends with me, who liked it as much as I did.

We went to this restaurant because they take the Entertainment Card. What a treat we found. The restaurant is small and homey. On a winter Saturday night, the only staff were the owner, Yan and the chef. Yan was greeting, waiting tables and probably plating in the back. He was entertaining, personable and pleasant. The food was typical Polish and very good. The price was extremely reasonable. In the winters it is only open on the weekends. It was great and I highly recommend this restaurant for a great experience.

As you can see, our reviewers have been kind and we know you will find the same results when you visit us at our wonderful Taste of Poland Restaurant.
